1.
There was an old man who loved reading newspapers. He would go to the nearest store to buy newspapers every day. The shop assistant (店员) saw that the old man only bought newspapers so he showed no respect for him and was always impolite. Every time the old man went to buy newspapers, the shop assistant would throw (扔) the newspaper or be rude when giving the change (零钱). He wouldn't even look the old man in the eye. The old man's friend asked, "Since he treats (对待) you like that, why don't you go to other places to buy newspapers?" The old man answered with a smile, "If I get angry with him and go to another place to buy newspapers, I'll have to take a detour (绕路). This will not only waste my time but also bring trouble. Anyway, it's his problem that he has bad manners (礼仪). Why should I let his actions change my mood (心情)?"
One day, a new shop assistant came to the store. This new shop assistant would always greet the old man with a smile, and give him his newspapers kindly. Each time the old man talked with the new shop assistant happily. The old shop assistant began to think about his own actions and realized how bad he had been toward the old man. From then on, the old shop assistant slowly changed his ways. He became patient and respectful (有礼貌的) toward everyone coming in. The old man was also happy to accept (接受) his change.
