This is the Year of the Snake. But did you know that long ago, snakes had four legs and could run (fast) than rabbits? Here's the story of how they lost their legs.
Once, the Moon Goddess warned all the (animal) that the weather would be very dry soon. "Leave now, here will turn into very hot and dry place!" she said. So, insects, birds, and others left. But the lazy snake just laughed and said __(proud), "I'm staying right here!".
As time passed, the hungry snake wanted (leave), because the rivers dried up and there was no food left. Unluckily, its legs (burn) badly by the hot sand. The snake was so scared it cried, "Moon Goddess, please forgive me! Save me!" The Moon Goddess felt sorry the snake. So she made its legs disappeared and gave it a smooth body to slide on. She said, "Remember this——you are too proud, it will make you lose things. "
Some people say the snake learned not to be so proud after that. This story reminds (we)that it's important to be able to look ahead and stay humble.
